Acupuncture for Back, Neck & Joint Pain
Pain can affect much more than the place where it hurts. Back or neck pain can make it difficult to work, exercise, sleep or simply move through your day normally. My approach is to understand your individual symptoms, movement patterns and overall health.
What I Commonly Work With
- Lower back pain
- Upper back pain
- Neck pain and stiffness
- Shoulder pain
- Knee pain
- Hip pain
- Joint pain and stiffness
- Muscle tension and muscular pain
- Certain sports and overuse injuries
- Chronic or recurring musculoskeletal pain
Understanding Your Individual Symptoms
Pain can look very different from one person to another. During your assessment, I want to understand more than simply where it hurts.
Looking Beyond the Painful Area
Treatment does not necessarily have to focus directly on the place where you feel pain. Depending on your presentation, acupuncture points elsewhere on the body may be selected.
The Traditional Chinese Medicine Perspective
Traditional Chinese Medicine considers pain and musculoskeletal problems within the broader context of the individual's health and overall pattern.
What Might Treatment Involve?
Acupuncture is the foundation of my treatment. Depending on your individual presentation, I may draw from different acupuncture approaches and complementary therapies.
How Many Treatments Might I Need?
There is no standard number of treatments. Your treatment plan depends on the nature and duration of your symptoms and how you respond to care.
When Should Pain Be Medically Evaluated?
Seek appropriate medical attention if you experience severe or rapidly worsening pain, significant pain following a serious injury, new weakness or significant numbness, loss of bladder or bowel control, severe pain accompanied by fever, or a swollen, red or unusually hot joint. Acupuncture should complement — not replace — appropriate medical evaluation and care.
Could Acupuncture Be Appropriate for You?
If back, neck or joint pain is affecting your movement, sleep, work, exercise or everyday life, acupuncture may be worth exploring as part of your overall approach to care. You're also welcome to contact Richard directly.
