Acupuncture for Digestive Problems
Digestive problems can affect much more than your stomach or intestines. My approach is to understand your individual digestive symptoms and consider them together with the rest of your health.
What I Commonly Work With
- Bloating
- Abdominal discomfort
- Indigestion
- Constipation
- Diarrhea
- Irregular bowel habits
- Nausea
- Reduced or changing appetite
- Digestive discomfort associated with stress
- Recurring or functional digestive complaints
Understanding Your Individual Symptoms
Digestive symptoms can be surprisingly different from one person to another.
Looking at the Broader Picture
Digestive symptoms don't always exist in isolation, you may also experience fatigue, poor sleep, stress or anxiety, headaches, or menstrual and hormonal symptoms.
The Traditional Chinese Medicine Perspective
Traditional Chinese Medicine places considerable importance on digestion and its relationship to the body's overall health.
What Might Treatment Involve?
Acupuncture is the foundation of my treatment. Depending on your individual presentation, I may draw from different acupuncture approaches and complementary therapies.
How Many Treatments Might I Need?
There is no standard number of treatments. Your treatment plan depends on the nature and duration of your digestive symptoms and how you respond to care.
When Should Digestive Problems Be Medically Evaluated?
Medical evaluation is particularly important if you experience blood in your stool or vomit, black or tarry stools, severe or persistent abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, unexplained weight loss, persistent fever, significant or rapidly worsening changes in bowel habits, difficulty swallowing, or yellowing of the skin or eyes. Acupuncture should complement, not replace, appropriate medical evaluation and care.
Could Acupuncture Be Appropriate for You?
